Photoblog – Birmingham Zoo

I recently took a trip to the Birmingham Zoo with only my 20 year old Canon 5D Classic and “nifty-fifty” Canon 50mm f.18 STM lens.

Using this old DSLR brought back a lot of memories to when I first started in photography and honestly it was kind of refreshing to use. No live view, no eye detection AF, no EVF and with only a 1GB CF card I only had about 50 photos I could take before the card would be full.

All of this caused me to really slow down and be intentional about the photos I was taking. Honestly, this camera and lens is becoming my favorite to carry around. Sure, it has plenty of limitations and in most scenarios I would rather have my newer Sony mirrorless cameras, but it’s nice to slow down every now and then and remember a simpler time.

Here are some of my personal Lightroom Presets I created specifically for the Canon 5D Classic.

*please note, these work better for RAW files vs JPEG and may require more editing to get the desired look, but they should provide you with a great starting point.
